AUNG SAN SUU KYI IS FREE AT LAST
Freedom at last!!!
The military authorities in Burma have released the pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.
She has appeared in front of a crowd of her supporters who rushed to her house in Rangoon when nearby barricades were removed by the security forces.
Aung San Suu Kyi born 19 June 1945, is a Burmese opposition politician and a former General Secretary of the National League for Democracy. In the 1990 general election, Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party won 59% of the national votes and 80% (392 of 492) of the seats in Parliament, leading some to claim that this implies Suu Kyi was elected Prime Minister. She had, however, already been detained under house arrest before the elections. She had remained under house arrest in Myanmar for almost 14 out of the past 20 years.
